Freeze Dried Strawberries

Trader Joe's has an entire line of freeze dried fruit, but we've never really paid too much attention to them, opting instead for regular dried fruit. On one of our trips, I decided it was time to try these out to see whether they would be a "healthier" snack that we could eat instead of candy.

Product: Freeze Dried Strawberries

Price: $3.49 for 1.2 oz bag (I think the other berries were even more expensive)

Quick review: We weren't sure what to expect from these. The texture when you pulled them out of the bag was similar to a chip, but when you ate it, it was as sticky as an actual strawberry (and the seeds got just as stuck in your teeth). They were very sweet, even though not sweetened with sugar, just their natural sweetness. Eating them on their own, we didn't really want to eat more than a few at a time. They might be a good addition to cereal or oatmeal, certainly easier than having fresh strawberries on hand, especially out of season. They're reminiscent of the dried strawberries that come in some cereals, so that would probably work.

Buy Again? Maybe. They could sort of work as a candy replacement, but still kind of love the Mango Mango gummies more than these. We just don't really feel compelled to eat them, which is why we probably have half a bag left even though we opened them months ago. They're just sort of there. Not bad, but just hard to get excited about.
